We tend to think of safety as something provided by systems, institutions, or emergency response.
But it often begins much more quietly:
… when we start avoiding the news because we no longer know what to trust.
… when confidence in institutions begins to erode.
… when conversations become difficult — or stop altogether.
And in moments we recognise from our own lives:
… when what someone says is suddenly distorted into something else.
… when we hesitate to speak up, because it feels easier to remain silent.
… when we assume someone else will act — and so no one does.
Safety does not begin in crisis.
It develops in everyday life — or is lost there.
From a Summit to a Week
We are no longer living only in a world of predictable risks, where safety can be ensured through prevention alone.
In a time characterised by digitalisation, global interconnection, and growing uncertainty, safety increasingly depends on something else: our ability to remain in dialogue, make sense of complexity, and stay capable of acting — particularly when we feel uncertain.
This is why we have created a full week of public events in the Swiss Canton of Uri, centred around the Safety 360° Summit.
What began as a single international symposium on 28 April grew, in dialogue with partners across the canton, into a full week of events.
Together, these events bring to life what we explore at the Summit: how safety is created in everyday life—and where it begins to break down.
They turn to what lies at the heart of safety: bringing people into dialogue, and making sense of challenging times together.
